Extended Play: More dates added to Metallica promotion

Posted on:

Scotland’s blood donation service has announced an extended play for its Metallica partnership – with more donors now able to get their hands on the band’s generous giveaways while helping save lives.

The promotion, launched ahead of Metallica’s M72 World Tour stop at Hampden Park in Glasgow on 25 June, has now been expanded to include all blood, platelet and plasma donations made in Scotland up to and including 1 July 2026.

Donors attending one of Scotland’s donor centres in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee or Inverness will receive an exclusive Metallica t-shirt, while those donating at community blood donation sessions will receive a limited edition Metallica plectrum, while stocks last.

The extension means even more people have the chance to support patients across Scotland and pick up a unique keepsake from one of the world’s biggest rock bands.

Deborah McNaughton, Associate Director for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service said:

‘We’ve been delighted with the response to the Metallica partnership and we’re excited to announce this extended play for donors across Scotland.

‘Every day, blood, platelet and plasma donors help ensure life-saving treatments are available for patients who need them. By extending the promotion until 1 July, we’re hoping even more people will book an appointment and discover just how easy it is to make a difference.’

The partnership with Metallica and the band’s charitable foundation, All Within My Hands, reflects a shared commitment to supporting communities and helping those in need.

A spokesperson for Metallica previously said:

‘Wherever we perform, we want to give something meaningful back to the communities that welcome us. We’ve seen how working with blood services in other countries can make a real difference, and we’re pleased to bring that to the UK.

‘Encouraging people to donate blood is about looking out for one another. It’s a simple act that can have a powerful impact.’

Many people are surprised to learn that tattoos and piercings are not usually a barrier to donation, provided there has been a four-month gap since they were received. The eligibility process is quick and straightforward, and appointments are available throughout the country.

Because whether you’re already Hardwired to help others or considering donating for the first time, giving blood, platelets or plasma is one of the simplest ways to support patients across Scotland.
