The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service produces a number of leaflets about giving blood. These materials are available at blood donor centres and community sessions across Scotland.

This leaflet tells you how to look after yourself after you’ve given blood. It also gives information on contacting the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.

Bruising: Advice for donors

Bruising is a recognised complication of giving blood, although for most affected donors, it is not serious and clears up over a few days. This leaflet tells you how to help prevent bruising, and what to do if you bruise after giving blood.

Donor health check form (sample)

Every blood donor has to fill in a form giving information about themselves and their medical history each time they come to give blood. This sample leaflet shows you what the form looks like and the questions asked, but is watermarked, and cannot be used.

Eligibility queries

The eligibility queries leaflet gives more information on why you may not be able to donate on any given day, and what happens next if your eligibility criteria answers flag further action.

Fainting: Advice for donors

Occasionally a donor feels sick or dizzy after giving blood, and on rare occasions they may actually faint. This leaflet tells you what to do if you feel faint while giving blood, and how to help prevent it happening.

The FAIR equality impact assessment records the processes designed to ensure that the FAIR process does not unlawfully discriminate against any protected characteristic.
