Murray and Kit: ‘A Pawsitive’ force for good

Posted on:

Murray and dog Kit pose with two female donor carers at a blood donation session. The background of the picture is an image of Pitlochry town.

Murray and his red lab guide dog Kit are well-kent faces at the Pitlochry session.

Murray recently gave his 26th donation. Kit has only been with him for a year, but they’re already the perfect pair. ‘Kit gives me freedom and independence. He is the best dog I’ve ever had.’

One day, it could be you who needs that blood.

– Murray

A few years ago, Murray spent three days in hospital. ‘I didn’t need a transfusion, but it reminded me just how quickly life can change. One day, it could be you who needs that blood.’

Murray started donating in the early 2000s, first in Edinburgh and now in Pitlochry.

‘Giving blood has always been easy, the staff are fantastic – always kind and caring,’ he says. ‘Being blind has never held me back.’

Murray remembers his mum proudly she donated over 50 times and was still giving well into her seventies, and her kindness has always stayed with him. It showed him what a simple, good thing it is to do, and now he hopes others will feel inspired to sign up and give blood too.
