Thank you from Helen and Peter.

For Helen, the freedom to be able to walk means more than words can say.

Helen Wakefield is so grateful for the two units of blood that she received last year.

Helen struggled with her mobility. A simple thing like going for a walk with a loved one was very difficult.  She spoke of a memory that she had when her husband Peter and her two children set off on a family holiday to Italy and Helen had to stay at home.

On the 25 May 2017 Helen received a total hip replacement and needed two units of blood after the surgery.  Helen required surgery again on the 23 October 2017, this time blood was not required.

Helen vowed from that day forward that she wanted to replace the blood that she received and more.  As Helen had received a blood transfusion herself, she was unable to fulfill what she wanted to do.  This is where husband Peter stepped in, Peter who had not given blood since 2001 decided that he would take Helen’s place and return to being a regular blood donor.

We look forward to welcoming both Helen and Peter back in Dundee Blood Donor Centre in 16 weeks time.
