Changeworks change lives

We all know that giving blood can make you feel pretty good about yourself, but how does it feel to rope your colleagues into the blood donor family?

We chatted to Bruce Wares, who recently organised a group donation at Inverness Blood Donor Centre with his colleagues from Changeworks.

‘As a local business, we’re very aware that we have a huge responsibility to give something back to the local community. Giving blood was such an easy way of doing that.  All it took was to send one email round the office to find out who would be interested in coming along,’ said Bruce.

‘I was genuinely taken aback at the fantastic response I got, and just how many people were interested in taking part.  The booking was really easy to arrange and the prospect of coming along together as a group created a real buzz in the office.

‘This was my first donation.  Giving blood is something that I’d always meant to do, but just never seemed to get around to it.  Coming along with a group of familiar faces made my first donation so much easier.  The whole thing was very relaxed, and of course I have to say that the banter was pretty great too.

‘We were told that each of our donations can be split into three different parts, and it’s absolutely awesome to know we’ve been able to save or improve the lives of up to 18 people during our lunch hour.

‘The whole process from start to finish is all very straightforward.  The team are really friendly and explain everything, and of course there are loads of great biscuits afterwards.

‘Genuinely, we all feel great about having made such a difference.  I’d tell anyone thinking of organising a group donation, or even just coming along to give blood for the first time themselves, to go for it.’

Thank you to Bruce and the team from Changeworks for visiting Inverness Donor Centre. We look forward to welcoming you all again soon.
