Making a difference

Share

We’re thrilled to announce that the ‘Give Blood, Save Lives’ campaign - created in partnership with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and Highland News and Media (HNM) - has been shortlisted for the 2025 Making a Difference Award as part of Journalism Matters week. The winner will be chosen by public vote.

This unique campaign ran between November 2024 and Easter 2025 and resulted in 57 articles being published which promoted giving blood in the Highlands and Islands area. Nine titles participated, including the Inverness Courier, the Forres Gazette and the Ross-shire Journal. The campaign featured donor, patient and staff case studies to provide a powerful narrative about the need for donors. During the campaign period donor attends increased by 33%.

Now, the campaign is up for a public vote in the Making a Difference Award, which celebrates impactful journalism across the UK. Voting opens at 9:30am on Monday, 3 November and closes at 5pm on Thursday, 6 November.
