Lighting up red for World Blood Donor night

In the last few hours of World Blood Donor Day 2016, iconic buildings around Scotland lit up red in support.

Red Kelpies at night

Richard Millar, Director of Heritage, Enterprise and Sustainability at Scottish Canals, said:

“Scottish Canals, along with our partners Falkirk Council and Falkirk Community Trust, are proud to support World Blood Donor Day. The Kelpies are one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks; by turning these majestic monuments red we hope to raise awareness of the importance of giving blood and encourage even more people to donate.”

The SSE Hydro lit red for World Blood Donor night 2016

Kirsten McAlonan, Head of PR at The SSE Hydro, said:

“We’re delighted to support World Blood Donor day by lighting up The SSE Hydro once again. We hope that this gesture goes some way towards spreading the word and encouraging people to give blood as often as they can.”
