Granite City Rollers roll up their sleeves

Share

A roller derby team swapped their high speed skates for a more relaxed evening while giving blood at Aberdeen Donor Centre.

Roller derby team ‘Granite City Rollers’ attended Aberdeen Donor Centre after being tagged in a social media post by Dundee Roller Derby when they gave blood.

Organiser Laura Fairley said ‘We decided to organise a group booking after Dundee Roller Derby tagged in a social media post after they had donated in Dundee. We thought it would be a great thing to do as a group and would be a great opportunity to give something back.'

'The whole process was really easy. We were given all the information we needed beforehand so that people could register on the website and it was great that we were able to get a block of appointments so we could have appointments next to each other.'

It was really easy to register as a blood donor online and it was great to come as part of a group for my first time, it makes you feel less nervous. I’ll definitely be back! Antonia Foley

Donor Nicola Edwards said ‘I’ve always known the importance of blood donation as my Mum is an O- donor. Life sometimes gets in the way of you getting round to making an appointment but this group donation was the perfect opportunity.'

First time donor Antonia Foley said ‘It was really easy to register as a blood donor online and it was great to come as part of a group for my first time, it makes you feel less nervous. I’ll definitely be back!’

For donors Martin and Rachel, doing a good deed and getting a biscuit at the end makes it all worth while!

Huge thanks to the Granite City Rollers team for rolling up their sleeves.
