Bloodstocks Update – Christmas 25

Share

In Scotland, we are lucky to have great insights about hospital demand, which we can match to booked appointments.

This means we are getting a clearer picture on how bloodstock levels are likely to look over the critical festive period.

Here is what we can see:

  • Blood stock levels are currently within the desired range, but we need donors with all blood groups to continue coming forward.
  • O Negative, the only blood group that can safely be given to everyone, is currently trending downwards, which is concerning.
  • Our Donor Centres in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness are all quieter than we’d like. We particularly need donors to book in on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
  • We need platelet donors to book your festive donation, as this is the component with the shortest shelf life. Supplies must be constantly replenished.
  • If you are O+, O-, A+ or A- our laboratory team really need you to come forward – especially on Boxing Day – to allow us to manufacture essential platelets from your donation.
  • There’s lots of colds and flu about – so if you are fit and well, it’s never been more important you come forward now.

Please help Scotland's patients today.

  • Book your festive donation online, or email us at 0345 90 90 999 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm)
