All donors are being asked to come forward if it is safe to do so.

After a week of weather disruption, SNBTS have lost over 700 appointments.

Here's what we can see going into next week:

  • SNBTS have lost over 700 appointments. This is more than an entire days supply. Whilst bloodstocks today still look healthy, 3 of the main blood groups are predicted to fall below 3 days by early next week.
  • All donors are being asked to come forward if it is safe to do so. O Pos, O Neg, A Pos and A Neg donors are particularly needed, now and in the coming days.
  • Thank you to platelet donors. As platelets have the shortest shelf life of any major component, the 1,100 platelet donors of Scotland have been amazing. But platelet donors can only deliver for just over half of Scottish hospital requirements – so our laboratory colleagues need to manufacture platelets from your blood donation. Thank you to all plasma donors who have continued to come forward.
  • Make an extra special effort to donate if it is safe for you to do so over the coming days – we have plenty appointment availability in our donor centres.
  • Sessions are going ahead as planned with minimal disruption. Systems are in place for contacting donors if there are changes to your appointments – we text, call or email you.  Please do check our website. We aim to provide extra appointments that donors can safely travel to.
  • It looks like the thaw will be regional not national – so as soon as you can travel again, add giving blood on your list of things to do.
  • Please use our session finder to locate your nearest donating opportunity.
  • Book your appointment by calling 0345 90 90 999 or book online at scotblood.co.uk
