Exciting new partnership offers city centre blood donation opportunity

Share

SNBTS are delighted to hold the first blood donation session in the Aberdeen Vaccination and Wellbeing Hub.

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) have partnered with the Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership to provide a city centre location at the Aberdeen Vaccination & Wellbeing Hub for donors to give blood.

The first of these dates will be Friday 8th August and Monday 11th August and we hope to welcome 80 donors over the course of the two days.

Additional sessions are in place for the week beginning 15th December so Aberdeen donors can support the blood supply over the festive period and further donating opportunities will be available next year.

Dr Sylvia Armstrong-Fisher, SNBTS Head of Territory Northern Arch said 'This exciting new partnership gives Aberdeen donors the opportunity to give blood in the heart of the city. The people of Aberdeen always provide great support whenever we introduce a new campaign or call on them for donations. We really hope that as many people as possible make their appointments to give blood and show their support for this new venue.'

The city centre venue will provide an excellent donating opportunity for Aberdonians.

Caroline Anderson, Programme Manager, Aberdeen City Vaccination & Wellbeing Hub added 'We’re thrilled to welcome SNBTS to the Aberdeen Vaccination and Wellbeing Hub. The hub has a great footfall from residents attending for clinical appointments or popping into the Wellbeing Hub for support. This partnership brings a vital service right into the heart of the city, making it easier than ever for people to donate blood and support their community. We’re proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to seeing donors make great use of this accessible new venue.'

There are currently 94,877 active blood donors in Scotland. With 11,007 active donors based Aberdeen and Grampian, SNBTS welcomes around 400 donors per week both at Aberdeen Donor Centre and in the community to help keep Scotland’s blood stocks at safe levels.

Sylvia concluded: 'By making blood donation more accessible we hope that in addition to our existing donors, we can make it easier for young people and those who have never donated to roll up their sleeve for the first time. We look forward to giving you all a warm welcome soon.'
