AB cryoprecipitate and plasma

Share

When you come to give blood, your donation is split into three separate parts – red cells, platelets and plasma.

At this time, we particularly need male AB donors to come forward. This is because we can manufacture life- saving components of plasma and cryoprecipitate ('cryo') from your donation. Plasma and cryo are essential for patient care. They are used for treating patients facing severe bleeding – This can include patients suffering post-partum hemorrhage, trauma patients and those undergoing cardiac or liver surgery.

As an AB donor the plasma and cryo components from your donation can safely be given to everyone. This means you are the universal donor for these vital treatments.

We are contacting AB donors and asking them to come forward and help build stocks of these life saving components – so please do book your appointment if you can.

Patients need you.

Thank you.

You can book an appointment using your online donor account; by calling us on 0345 90 90 999 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm); or by emailing us at nss.snbtsenquiry@nhs.scot
