Goal keeping legend takes time out to 'save' a life

25 September 2012

Jim and staffGoal keeping legend Jim Leighton, MBE, took time out of his busy schedule to make another great 'save' by giving blood at Aberdeen Donor Centre last week.

Jim explained, "I think giving blood is something we should all do. You never know what could happen and when you might need emergency medical help.  I would be extremely grateful to know that someone had taken the time and trouble to donate blood should I ever need it in the future."

Jim was part of the all conquering Aberdeen team of the 1980s and remains Scotland's most capped goalkeeper. His success relied on his quick reactions and reliability under pressure - so when Jim signed up to be part of our Blood Donor 24 (BD24) emergency response panel we were delighted to have his support!

He continued, "I try to donate regularly and I am happy to be part of the BD24 team. It means that if there is a sudden need for my specific blood group I can be contacted."

Keep up the great work Jim - it's great to know that our blood stocks are in such safe hands!
