Give platelets

Scotland needs more platelet donors

Platelets are a component of blood, essential to stop bruising and bleeding. Many of Scotland's patients rely on platelets, including cancer and leukaemia patients, premature babies and emergency admissions.

We are always looking for people to become platelet donors. Platelets can only be stored for five days, so it is important supplies are constantly replenished.

Platelet donors are normally:

  • under 60 years of age
  • blood group O, A or B
  • able to attend one of our local donor centres every four to six weeks
  • willing to spend 90 minutes donating

To find out more, please complete our platelet enquiry form. We will then be in touch to provide more information about the process.
