Research and Development (R&D)

SNBTS undertakes research and development designed to support the strategic and operational priorities of the organisation, achieve high quality and impact, and add value to broader NHS and Government objectives.

R&D does this via three research themed areas:

  • Microbiology and Components
  • Tissue and Cellular Therapies
  • Clinical Transfusion

R&D works closely with the main research intensive Scottish Universities, as well as partner organisations such as the National CJD Surveillance Unit and the Roslin Institute.

We also work in partnership with other parts of NHSScotland and with other UK Blood Services in order to ensure relevant and efficient use of resources.
